This image depicts a sculpted replica of a small theropod dinosaur fossil, likely inspired by species such as Velociraptor or other dromaeosaurs. Upon doing some research, it may have been created as movie merch for the 1993 film, Jurassic Park. These types of replicas are often used for educational display or artistic purposes, offering a visually compelling way to appreciate paleontology without risking damage to authentic specimens. Still, I liked it and based a T shirt on it.

This is the fossil that inspired the T shirt design in our collection. The fossil this image represents is Deinonychus antirrhopus, a groundbreaking dinosaur discovery first unearthed in the Cloverly Formation of Montana in the 1960s. Described by paleontologist John H. Ostrom, this find radically changed our understanding of dinosaurs. Unlike the sluggish reptiles once imagined, Deinonychus displayed clear evidence of being an agile, intelligent predator—with sharp, recurved claws, a stiffened tail for balance, and features that strongly linked it to modern birds. The fossil helped launch the “Dinosaur Renaissance,” shifting scientific consensus toward the view of dinosaurs as active, dynamic animals and ultimately reinforcing the evolutionary connection between theropod dinosaurs and birds.
